Jogos musicais como "Guitar Hero" e "Rock Band" são alguns dos títulos que mais tem download de conteúdo adicional. Para facilitar a vida dos jogadores, esta lista compila todas as canções extras para "Guitar Hero 5", nas versões para Xbox 360 e PlayStation 3 (e, com algumas restrições, para Wii).

O game recebe pacotes regularmente, cada uma delas contendo três músicas, além de "singles". Cada canção sai, usualmente, por US$ 2 (160 MS Points no Xbox 360 e 200 Wii Points no Wii) e quando estão em pacote, o conjunto de três músicas costuma sair por US$ 5,50 (440 MS Points).

No Wii, há somente a opção de comprar as faixas individualmente (sem pode contar com o desconto na hora de comprar um pacote inteiro), por isso, pacotes como o de Jimi Hendrix, que não pode ser desmembrado, não estão disponíveis no console da Nintendo.

"Guitar Hero 5" tem mudanças significativas em relação à ultima edição canônica, chamada "World Tour". A primeira delas é o sistema de avaliação, com seis estrelas, permitindo depurar melhor do desempenho do jogador. O título chegou ao Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii e PlayStation 2 em 1º de setembro.

Além disso, cada canção traz um desafio temático, como manter o multiplicador por algum tempo no nível 4x, conseguir determinada pontuação ou usar a alavanca de tremolo o quanto puder. "Guitar Hero 5" também prevê avatares de artistas famosos: já estão confirmados nesta edição a lenda do country Johnny Cash, o guitarrista Carlos Santana, o ídolo Kurt Cobain e Shirley Manson, vocalista do Garbage.
